Parit Calls on Prime Minister and Ministers to Prioritize Parliamentary Questions

Bangkok: "Parit" urges the Prime Minister and ministers to clear their schedules to answer questions in Parliament. Parit revealed that the opposition is preparing a motion to investigate and resolve the problem of agricultural product prices, and called on the Prime Minister and ministers to clear their schedules to answer questions in parliament.

According to Thai News Agency, Parit Wacharasindhu, a list MP from the People's Party and the opposition whip, stated that the meeting discussed the agenda for this week's House of Representatives session. Two motions were decided upon for Wednesday, April 22nd: Firstly, a proposal to establish a special committee on climate change and to review the plan for achieving Net Zero by 2050. These will be submitted to People's Party MPs. Secondly, the opposition whip decided to prioritize the consideration of the motion to investigate and address the problem of low agricultural product prices. This is because high agricultural prices affect a large number of people, with rising costs from fuel and fertilizer, while at the same time, the prices of some agricultural products, such as rice, coconuts, and mangoes, have plummeted due to decreased exports and an influx of imported goods. Therefore, there is an urgent need to bring this motion up for consideration tomorrow.

Mr. Parit also called on the government, which is currently in power, to assign relevant ministers to attend and listen to suggestions from the House of Representatives, and to clarify and answer questions on various issues. He noted that during the energy debate, no government representative was present to provide clarification, and similarly, during the flood relief debate, although the Deputy Minister of Interior exercised his right to summarize on behalf of the members, no representative from the executive branch was seen answering the public's questions. Therefore, he hopes that during the debate on agricultural product prices, the relevant ministers, including the Minister of Commerce and the Minister of Agriculture and Cooperatives, will be present to listen to and explain the issues to the House of Representatives.

Mr. Parit said that the House of Representatives meeting on Thursday, April 23rd, will be the first week with urgent questions, general questions, and specific questions. At least one question from the public will be proposed. As for the opposition parties, they will wait to see the results of the Cabinet meeting. He urged the government, knowing that Thursday morning will be for answering urgent questions, and that according to regulations, urgent questions can only be submitted on Thursday mornings, to manage their time so that both the Prime Minister and ministers can answer the questions.
