Bangkok: PDRC – Dharma Army stormed the Medical Council to urge them to quickly conclude the treatment of “Thaksin”, claiming that he is critically ill. Stop wasting time to help each other. They said that if the results are explained scientifically, they believe society will accept them. They asked not to cut it short.
According to Thai News Agency, the Network of Students and People for Reform of Thailand (NSRT), the Dharma Army Network led by Mr. Phichit Chaiyamongkol, the core leader of SNRT, submitted a letter to the Medical Council regarding the prohibition of corruption in medical ethics in the case of the treatment of Mr. Thaksin Shinawatra, the former Prime Minister, on the 14th floor of the Police General Hospital. Was it in accordance with medical principles or was it beneficial?
Mr. Pichit said that he came to the Medical Council today to demand that the Council quickly conclude the medical facts regarding Thaksin’s illness and treatment. He thought that the conclusion should not take longer than this because whether he is sick or not, or whether his condition is critical or not, can be proven by medical science. Therefore, he asked the Medical Council to quickly conclude and stand on the principles of ethics and medical ethics. He also requested that the fact-finding subcommittee chaired by Professor Emeritus Dr. Amorn Leelaratmi send a letter inviting Thaksin to provide information because he is considered a person involved in the matter. As for whether he will provide information or not, it is considered that an invitation letter has been sent. However, if he is not invited to provide information, it may be a gap that can be brought up to sue the Administrative Court that the investigation was not comprehensive and did not cover all involved parties. In the past, similar incidents
have occurred, which the court interpreted as the investigation was unlawful.
Mr. Pichit said that the Medical Council’s postponement of the consideration of this matter from April 10, claiming that there were additional documents from the Police General Hospital and the Prison Hospital, he thought that it was a way to delay the matter because medical facts can be proven quickly anyway. In particular, the four illnesses mentioned have medical evidence from the past and present that can be proven. Delaying 180 days before submitting the documents is a different interpretation of the law. He thought that the Medical Council had the authority to expedite this matter.
When asked if the investigation results of the Medical Council came out, would the NBTC and its network accept it all? Mr. Phichit said that part of it depends on the scientific explanations, which are already quite clear in society. Our concerns are whether he was really critically ill or not. Was there an investigation at the Prison Hospital? There must be a clear medical explanation. And throughout the 180 days, there were behaviors that contradicted the principles of critically ill patients, such as going for an MRI and having a shoulder puncture, which doctors from other places still saw that it was not a critical illness. Therefore, the Medical Council must clearly explain this matter, what treatment did the doctors who treated him do? And in the case of a special suspension of sentence after treatment, it was said that he could not help himself or dress himself. There must also be a clear medical explanation because being unable to help himself is not measured by just one day. We must look at the behav
iors that have accumulated since the beginning, showing that he could not help himself for a long time. However, the characteristics of Mr. Thaksin that appear in society today are not a person who is critically ill and cannot help himself.
“If there is a clear, scientific explanation, I think society will accept it. Just don’t cut off the explanation, saying it’s just following the procedure. An explanation like this, but a medical procedure that is discriminatory, will cause doubts in the medical profession,” said Mr. Phichit.
