Bangkok: The Prime Minister has tasked the Ministry of Interior with leading the transformation of the Provincial Electricity Authority (PEA) into a central hub for solar roof installation mentorship. This initiative aims to prioritize public benefit and address legal challenges to expand electricity access in all regions.
According to Thai News Agency, Ms. Ploytalay Laksmisangchan, Deputy Spokesperson for the Prime Minister's Office, shared that Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Anutin Charnvirakul, alongside Deputy Ministers Polpeerap Suwannachawi, Jetset Thaiseth, and Worasit Liengprasit, recently visited the Provincial Electricity Authority to inspect and deliver policy guidelines. The government, through the Ministry of Interior, has articulated a comprehensive policy for the PEA.
The "One Stop Shop for All Your Electricity Needs" initiative is designed to streamline processes and improve public access to services, with a special focus on solar rooftop installations. PEA will provide guidance from the initial stages, offering advice on application procedures, necessary documentation, and cost-benefit analyses. Additionally, they will assist customers in securing funding sources and low-interest loans.
The policy also emphasizes the urgent need to expand the electricity network to reach every household, particularly in remote areas such as Mae Hong Son and island regions. The expansion aims to empower residents in these regions by providing electricity access that can create jobs, increase income, and enhance their quality of life. The guiding principle is "PEA is ready to reach out, no matter how difficult it is to access the area."
Furthermore, the government is committed to removing legal and policy obstacles that hinder electricity expansion. The Prime Minister and the Minister of Interior are focused on reforming laws and regulations that create barriers, such as overlapping areas and land restrictions, to ensure that citizens do not face prolonged delays in accessing electricity due to bureaucratic processes.
