PEA Ensures 24-Hour Electrical Safety During Loi Krathong Festival

Bangkok: The Provincial Electricity Authority (PEA) is taking proactive measures to ensure electrical safety during the upcoming Loi Krathong festival by maintaining its electrical systems around the clock. The PEA has urged the public to cooperate by avoiding the release of sky lanterns in communities or near power lines and to refrain from lighting fireworks, firecrackers, and sparklers near electrical systems and other flammable materials. Additionally, the PEA has advised people to avoid contact with electrical equipment and advertising signs when wet and to unplug any unused electrical appliances before leaving their homes.

According to Thai News Agency, PEA is promoting a campaign titled “Thai Loy Krathong: Safe and Environmentally Conscious,” which emphasizes pollution-free practices during the festival. This initiative includes measures to ensure that krathongs are 100% free from bread and unnatural materials, as well as a 20% reduction in air pollution by encouraging the public to limit energy use and abstain from burning incense and smoking. The campaign also aims for a 30% increase in safety by eliminating firecrackers, sky lanterns, fireworks, and reducing accidents through the avoidance of alcoholic beverages.

The PEA has also set up a system for reporting any damaged electrical wires or equipment that poses safety risks. Citizens can contact their local Provincial Electricity Authority office or reach out to the PEA Contact Center at 1129, which operates 24 hours a day, to report such issues.
