People’s Party Advocates for Social Security Reform During Labor Day Parade

Bangkok: Weerayuth, Sia, and Thanaporn joined the Labor Day parade, pushing for social security reform and emphasizing that to become internationally recognized, the lives of workers must be prioritized. Mr. Veerayut Kanchuchat, MP (List System) and Deputy Leader of the People's Party, along with Mr. Sia Champathong and Ms. Thanaporn Wijan, MPs (List System) of the People's Party, joined the International Labor Day march from Ratchadamnoen Road to the City Hall Plaza.

According to Thai News Agency, Ms. Thanaporn stated that today the People's Party joined the march with the workers to reaffirm that the People's Party stands alongside workers, and to campaign for the restoration of the social security fund, which is currently facing public scrutiny regarding its management. Today, the People's Party will submit a bill for social security reform at the Parliament building.

Mr. Veerayuth stated that the People's Party's agenda for social security reform aims to improve the efficiency of the social security fund's management, which comprises 2.9 trillion baht. He believes that if managed transparently and professionally, this fund will generate returns for all workers, providing a safety net in times of unemployment, disability, or retirement.

Furthermore, the People's Party reaffirms the principle that labor unionism is a fundamental right, a key condition in FTA negotiations with the European Union and membership in the OECD. Therefore, if Thailand wants to meet international standards, it is essential to prioritize labor rights. Mutual adaptation between the business and labor sectors will help propel the economy further, leading to a progressive and just economic system where people in society can share both the joys and sorrows-a principle consistently upheld by the People's Party.

At 2:30 PM today, the People's Party will march from Bang Pho Intersection to the Parliament building to campaign for their draft social security bill, which will be submitted to the House of Representatives.
