Bangkok: The Permanent Secretary of Agriculture has mandated an immediate evacuation of the southern Isan border region, which has been under tension for the past 24 hours, prioritizing safety and hastening aid to farmers following recent clashes between Thailand and Cambodia. Mr. Winaroj Traiphongsuk, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives, disclosed that the situation along the southern Isan border has led him to direct ministry officials and staff in the four border provinces of Surin, Sisaket, Ubon Ratchathani, and Buriram to move to safe areas, with a commitment to closely monitor the situation around the clock.
According to Thai News Agency, officials are tasked with urgently coordinating with relevant government bodies to facilitate the evacuation and provide immediate assistance, especially to those residing in high-risk areas. The Ministry is prepared to offer compensation and support for any damage to the agricultural sector, following government regulations, to help ease the burden on agricultural workers.
“We have instructed our officials to relocate to secure areas until normalcy is restored,” Mr. Traiphongsuk stated. “We have also urged them to speed up assistance efforts for the public and farmers, with safety being the foremost priority. The Ministry of Agriculture is vigilantly monitoring the situation 24/7 to ensure rapid response and aid.”
