Permanent Secretary of Interior Ministry Acts on Prime Minister’s Directive to Amend Entertainment Venue Laws

Bangkok: The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior has initiated a swift response to the Prime Minister's policy by accelerating amendments to the laws governing entertainment venues and preparing to enhance safety inspections.

According to Thai News Agency, the Permanent Secretary has clarified that the Bangkok Metropolitan Police will manage zoning within Bangkok, while provincial governors will handle zoning in other areas. An immediate meeting is planned to discuss urgent measures. Mr. Arsit Sampanrat, the Permanent Secretary, addressed Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Anutin Charnvirakul's suggestion to modernize entertainment venue laws, acknowledging that these laws need to adapt to changing circumstances. Zoning decisions will be made by relevant authorities, with the Metropolitan Police Commissioner proposing decisions for Bangkok and provincial governors handling other regions. The Prime Minister has urged expedited proposals from relevant agencies.

Mr. Sampanrat highlighted that many venues registered as restaurants are classified as entertainment venues due to alcohol sales and dancing, necessitating a legal review. He emphasized that the existing problem is not with business operations but with insufficient safety standards. Agencies like district offices, the Public Works Department, and police stations in Bangkok, as well as district officers and police station superintendents in other provinces, are jointly responsible for monitoring. Mr. Sampanrat encouraged public reporting of suspicious activities and assured that any discovered wrongdoing will face strict action.

Regarding the Na Ladprao Brewery, Mr. Sampanrat noted that the establishment had secured a restaurant permit from the district office, which will inspect its operations, while the Ministry of Interior will enforce relevant laws. An urgent meeting is being organized, with the Deputy Permanent Secretary for Security Affairs coordinating, expected to occur soon.
