Bangkok: The Pheu Thai Party has announced its three nominees for the position of Prime Minister in the upcoming 2026 general election, unveiling these candidates as part of their campaign titled ‘Overhauling Thailand: Pheu Thai Can Do It’. The candidates include Mr. Julaphan Amornvivat, the party leader; Mr. Suriya Jungrungruangkit, the party’s election director; and Mr. Yoschanan Wongsawat, a former deputy dean for research and international relations at the Faculty of Engineering, Mahidol University. The announcement event was marked by the presence of party executives, key figures, and prospective MPs.
According to Thai News Agency, the event started with a video presentation highlighting the accomplishments of past prime ministers under the Pheu Thai Party’s leadership. This retrospective included figures from the party’s history when it was known as the Thai Rak Thai Party, showcasing leaders such as Thaksin Shinawatra, Samak Sundaravej, Somchai Wongsawat, Yingluck Shinawatra, Settha Thavisin, and Paetongtarn Shinawatra. The presentation aimed to emphasize the party’s legacy and capability to lead Thailand.
The unveiling of the prime ministerial candidates is part of Pheu Thai’s broader strategy and set of policies for the 2026 election, reflecting their ambition to bring substantial changes to the country’s political and social landscape.
