Bangkok: Party leaders have announced that they will convene this Friday to revise the executive committee structure of the Pheu Thai Party. Despite these changes, they have confirmed that the current party leader will remain unchanged.
According to Thai News Agency, Pheu Thai Secretary-General Mr. Prasert Chantharawongthong, who also serves as Minister of Education, disclosed that the annual general meeting will take place on Friday, April 24th. This meeting is in compliance with the regulations of the Election Commission (EC) and aims to revise and expand the executive committee structure by adding new members. Mr. Julaphan Amornvivat, the Minister of Labour and party leader, will be presenting his vision at the meeting. It is assured that the party leader position will not see any changes, and individuals who had previously resigned from the executive committee during the last election will be reinstated.
When queried about parliamentary procedures and potential resignations from party-list MP positions, as observed in the Bhumjaithai Party, Mr. Prasert clarified that the Pheu Thai Party had not yet delved into such discussions. He noted that some ministers are also serving as constituency MPs, which necessitates further dialogue regarding any required resignations. He stressed that ministers continue to fulfill their responsibilities in both the parliamentary and executive branches.
Furthermore, discussions are ongoing regarding the party's nominations for the positions of Bangkok Governor and City Council members. Mr. Prasert requested additional time for decision-making, noting that the election is anticipated around mid-2026. While affirming the party's commitment to the Bangkok political scene, he mentioned that the strategy for political activities will be determined by the executive committee in collaboration with Bangkok members.
A reporter from the Pheu Thai Party highlighted that party leaders are slated to meet this afternoon to finalize preparations for the 2026 annual general meeting. The meeting is scheduled to take place on Friday, April 24th, at the Pheu Thai Party headquarters located on Vibhavadi Rangsit Road, commencing at 8:30 AM. Notable attendees arriving at the headquarters include former Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra, serving as the head of the Pheu Thai family; Deputy Party Leader Chusak Sirinil; and party leader Phumtham Wechayachai.
