Phitsanulok: A small restaurant in Phitsanulok Province is making waves not just for its high-quality, affordable dishes, but also for its mission to support nearly 200 stray dogs and cats.
According to Thai News Agency, the restaurant is located at house number 299/1, Moo 6, Wang Thong Subdistrict, Wang Thong District. The establishment is run by Ms. Natthawarin Pholsukkan, affectionately known as "Auntie Maew," who was once the head chef at the renowned Mulan restaurant in Phitsanulok. After the closing of Mulan, Auntie Maew embarked on a new journey by opening "Krua Na Bueng Ratchanok Mulan," a delivery-based kitchen that offers a range of restaurant-quality dishes at prices accessible to many.
Auntie Maew, who has over two decades of culinary experience, crafts popular dishes such as steamed catfish with soy sauce, blue fish in red curry, and catfish noodles, which customers often order a day in advance. Her dedication to quality extends to her personal delivery service; she opts for reusable plates over plastic bags to minimize waste, collecting them from customers after use. Dishes are priced starting at 400 baht, with options like tamarind sauce prawns at 600 baht per kilogram and steamed catfish with soy sauce at 100 baht per 100 grams.
The proceeds from Auntie Maew's culinary endeavors are dedicated to the welfare of 101 cats and 76 dogs, all of which are abandoned animals she has taken under her care. These animals are housed in a closed system at her residence to ensure they do not disturb neighbors. However, Auntie Maew notes that the expenses for their food and medicine have recently increased, making her restaurant's mission more crucial than ever.
