Phnom Penh: Cambodia and Thailand traded accusations Saturday of fresh attacks as deadly border clashes entered a third day, leaving at least 33 people dead and more than 168,000 displaced, as international pressure mounted on both sides to reach a ceasefire. As of Saturday, Thailand reported that seven soldiers and 13 civilians had been killed in the clashes, while in Cambodia, five soldiers and eight civilians had been killed, according to Defense Ministry spokesperson Maly Socheata.

According to Radio Free Asia, during an emergency meeting on Friday, members of the U.N. Security Council called for de-escalation and urged ASEAN to mediate a peaceful solution. The ongoing conflict has heightened tensions in the region, drawing attention from the international community and sparking calls for immediate action to prevent further escalation.

The clashes have resulted in significant civilian displacement, with thousands seeking refuge from the violence. Both nations have accused each other of initiating attacks, complicating efforts for a negotiated ceasefire. The international community continues to watch closely, hoping for a resolution that will bring peace and stability back to the affected border areas.
