Phra Phi Misses Oscar Nomination Due To Submission Error

Bangkok: The director of “Phi Dai Sai Kha (A Useful Ghost),” Nonzee Uey, expressed disappointment after the film, which was selected as Thailand’s representative for the 98th Academy Awards in the Best International Feature Film category, failed to secure an Oscar nomination. The film was not included in the announcement by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences due to incomplete information being submitted within the required timeframe.

According to Thai News Agency, Uey, known for his work on films like “2499 (1956),” “Antaphan Khrong Muang (1997),” and “Nang Nak (1999),” shared his thoughts with Nine Entertain. He emphasized his belief in the film’s potential, noting its success in winning an award at Cannes. Uey expressed his support and disappointment, stating that “Phi Dai Sai Kha” deserved a chance to advance further in the competition.

Uey remarked on the challenges faced by indie filmmakers, particularly in securing funding and navigating the application processes for various film festivals. Despite the team’s experience in handling such applications, a mistake occurred during the submission process. Uey conveyed his sympathy for the team and encouraged them to persevere, hoping for a future opportunity at the Oscars.
