Bangkok: The court has granted bail to the Deputy Governor of Phuket, prohibiting him from interfering with evidence. The Deputy Governor managed to avoid jail time when the court approved his bail using his official position as collateral, with conditions set to prevent him from missing scheduled court appearances and tampering with evidence.
According to Thai News Agency, the Criminal Court for Corruption and Misconduct Cases, Region 9, located in Songkhla Province, granted bail to Mr. Rungruang, the Deputy Governor of Phuket. His official position was considered credible enough to be used as collateral for his temporary release. The court attached specific conditions to the bail: Mr. Rungruang faces a fine of 100,000 baht if he fails to report as scheduled, and his bail will be revoked if any attempts to interfere with evidence are detected. Following the court's decision, Mr. Rungruang promptly left the premises in a vehicle.
Mr. Rungruang was arrested on charges of acting as an intermediary. He allegedly solicited payments of 300,000 baht each from three victims, totaling 900,000 baht, in exchange for assistance in passing the civil service examination.
