Phumtham Reviews Potential 42 Billion Baht Local Budget Cut

Bangkok: “Phumtham” reveals that he is reviewing the rules to cut local budgets by 42 billion baht. Phumtham reiterates that the 42 billion baht local budget cut is still under review according to the rules for appropriateness, while also taking into account the impact on local administrative organizations not involved in the problem.

According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Phumtham Vejjayachai, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, as acting Prime Minister, mentioned the case where the 10th Subcommittee on Economic Stimulus Project Screening for 2025, with a budget of 157 billion baht, will review the local budget of 42 billion baht to be used to increase competitiveness, assist affected entrepreneurs, and develop human capital. He stated that the responsible committee has acted as it sees fit according to the rules, which the Ministry of Interior will have to review how it can explain or demonstrate the necessity of the budget. If it can be revised, it will be done. It all depends on the rules and correctness and appropriateness. He confirmed that at present, there has been no cut in the local budget, but it is under review. From what he is aware of, there is quite a lot of reason. However, he must also take into account the things that will happen to local administrative organizations that are not involved in the problem.

As for Mr. Paopum Rojanasakul, Deputy Minister of Finance, stating that this budget will be used to deal with the US tariff wall, Mr. Phumtham stated that this matter must be asked of Mr. Paopum, as the Ministry of Interior has not yet concluded and will discuss it again. It is still unknown whether the Bhumjaithai Party caused the need to cut local budgets or not, but budget management must take into account appropriateness.
