Bangkok: Prime Minister Paethongtarn Shinawatra expressed confidence in addressing all issues during the no-confidence debate, while humorously dismissing the opposition’s “salt-sprinkling” strategy. The remark came during an interview held at 10:43 p.m. after the second day of the censure debate. Reporters noted that the Prime Minister appeared to be in high spirits, to which she responded with a lighthearted comment on their teasing skills.
According to Thai News Agency, when questioned about the ongoing debate, Ms. Paethongtarn acknowledged that there had been some disorder in the parliament, attributing it to regulatory matters, but noted that it proceeded smoothly. She asserted that the responses provided were comprehensive, particularly during the intense final round of discussions.
Addressing the opposition’s strategy of “sprinkling salt,” Ms. Paethongtarn laughed and remarked on the dual nature of sodium, stating, “Sodium is good, but too much is not good.” She also addressed allegations from the People’s Party MP regarding her attire being a target of the Army’s Information Operations (IO), which could potentially harm Thailand’s territorial interests. Ms. Paethongtarn emphasized the need for an investigation by the Ministry of Defense to ascertain the facts.
Regarding accusations of inheritance tax avoidance related to a hotel in Khao Yai, Ms. Paethongtarn conveyed that all units involved had provided clarifications and that a clear response should be evident to the public. She mentioned that both she and the minister endeavored to address all concerns fully, coordinating with every ministry to utilize alternative platforms for further explanation if necessary, ensuring parliament’s time is respected. She concluded by expressing confidence that all issues had been addressed.
