PM Congratulates Lawrence Wong on Election Victory

Bangkok: The Prime Minister telephoned to congratulate Mr. Lawrence Wong, Prime Minister of Singapore, on the opportunity to win the election, and prepared to join forces with ASEAN to cope with global economic challenges.

According to Thai News Agency, Ms. Paethongtarn Shinawatra, Prime Minister, had a telephone conversation with Mr. Lawrence Wong, Prime Minister of the Republic of Singapore, to congratulate him on the occasion of winning the 14th General Election on 3 May 2025. The Prime Minister expressed his congratulations on behalf of the Thai government to Mr. Lawrence Wong, Prime Minister of Singapore, who won the 14th General Election with 65.57 percent of the votes, an increase from the previous election, and won 87 out of 97 seats in the House of Representatives, reflecting the confidence of Singaporeans in the leadership of the Prime Minister of Singapore.

The Prime Minister also took this opportunity to reaffirm the Thai government’s intention to work closely with the new Singaporean government, and both sides are pleased to meet again at the 46th ASEAN Summit in late May.

The Prime Minister of Singapore invited the Prime Minister to visit Singapore again officially, which the Prime Minister accepted to visit Singapore in the second half of the year to further strengthen the relationship on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Thailand and Singapore.

In addition, the two leaders exchanged views on how to deal with the US tariff hikes, which have widespread impacts on the economies of all countries. The Prime Minister saw that the opportunity of the ASEAN Summit should be used to discuss with the leaders of the 10 ASEAN countries to join forces to strengthen the ASEAN region, along with promoting cooperation within ASEAN to cope with global economic challenges.
