Police Arrest Gang for Trafficking Thai Women into UAE Prostitution

Abu Dhabi: Police from the Crime Suppression Division arrested a gang that tricked Thai women into prostitution in the UAE.

According to Thai News Agency, the human trafficking suppression police apprehended a 54-year-old woman identified as Ms. Saengyad. She allegedly lured Thai women into prostitution in the United Arab Emirates, demanding 70,000 baht from each for travel expenses.

The Anti-Human Trafficking Police arrested Ms. Saengyad at a karaoke bar in Mueang Samut Prakan District. She reportedly convinced three Thai women to work at a massage parlor in Abu Dhabi, promising lucrative income and covering all travel expenses. Upon arrival, the women faced confiscation of their passports, 24-hour detention, and coercion into prostitution, with a demand to repay 70,000 baht in travel costs.

One victim managed to escape after three days of forced prostitution and sought assistance from the Thai Consulate. During questioning, the suspect claimed ignorance of the coercive conditions, insisting she merely facilitated employment at the massage shop. She has been initially charged with jointly committing human trafficking.
