Wang Thonglang: Police are intensifying their investigation into a recently raided gambling den in the Wang Thonglang area, as they prepare to question the Thai nationals who rented the building. The establishment, disguised as a Chinese restaurant, was the site of an illegal gambling operation involving Chinese, Taiwanese, and Thai nationals.
According to Thai News Agency, the building on Soi Sahakorn Pramul was raided following a tip-off about suspicious gatherings. The police, in collaboration with the Children and Women Protection Division, discovered gambling activities and apprehended 20 individuals-12 Chinese, 4 Taiwanese, and 4 Thais. The establishment, a three-story building with Chinese signage, was located about 500 meters from Pracha Uthit Road and featured various entry and exit points.
Local residents were reportedly unaware of the illegal activities, mistaking the venue for a legitimate Chinese restaurant. However, suspicions arose due to the frequent comings and goings of Chinese patrons. Th
e police operation led by Pol. Col. Jessada Yangnok uncovered gambling equipment, poker cards, colored chips, and documents related to chip exchanges.
The arrested Thai individuals, identified as employees, have provided useful information to the authorities. Meanwhile, the Chinese and Taiwanese detainees are undergoing interrogation, with their immigration status being verified. Initial findings suggest that the suspects coordinated their meetings through the WeChat application, arriving at the venue by private cars or arranged transportation.
The building, previously a Chinese restaurant that closed during the COVID-19 pandemic, is now reportedly leased under a Thai name. Authorities are in the process of summoning the Thai tenants and the building owner for questioning. The area, known for its significant Chinese population, has become a focal point of the ongoing investigation.
Charges against the suspects include illegal gambling and organizing gambling activities. As the investigation continues, poli
ce plan to detain the individuals within 48 hours following the completion of their interrogations.
