Police Hold Urgent Meeting to Expedite Investigation into Auditor General Building Collapse

Bangkok: Police officials, led by the Deputy Commissioner of the Metropolitan Police and investigators from Bang Sue Police Station, convened to accelerate the investigation into the collapse of the Office of the Auditor General building. Despite the urgency, there remains an absence of representatives from the Office of the Auditor General or associated companies to provide further information.

According to Thai News Agency, Pol. Maj. Gen. Somkuan Phuengsap, Deputy Commissioner of the Metropolitan Police Bureau, and Pol. Maj. Gen. Jessada Suaysom, Commander of Metropolitan Police Division 2, are closely monitoring the progress of the investigation. The focus is on various aspects, including the procurement contract, terms of reference (TOR), construction model amendments, and the approval process for blueprint modifications. Previously, a representative from the Auditor General’s Office submitted documents, but they were found incomplete. The representative indicated there were approximately 10 boxes of documents, leading to a request for an extension. The completion of document delivery is anticipated by April.

Additionally, the investigation is delving into allegations concerning the designer and engineer of the building, particularly regarding the forgery of the supervising engineer’s signature. Authorities are thoroughly reviewing the list of engineers, supervisors, and signatories involved in the project.

The police have conducted interrogations with more than 100 witnesses, including the construction contractor, supervisor, and design company. However, the case file remains incomplete as they await critical results from various bodies. These include the Engineering Council’s inspection results, the examination of construction steel materials by the Forensic Science Institute, and findings from the government’s fact-finding inquiry.
