Bangkok: Police raided an illegal foreign-owned pub in the Ratchadamri area, arresting 15 employees and cashiers whose jobs did not match their advertisements.
According to Thai News Agency, the joint operation was conducted by the Lumpini Police, Bangkok Narcotics Suppression Bureau, and the Department of Employment. At 11:30 PM on July 5th, Pol. Col. Yingyot Suwannano, Superintendent of Lumpini Police Station, led the raid with over 50 personnel from various departments. The establishments, "After Eight Bangkok" and "Yar Ma Nya Bar and Lounge," were targeted following reports of potential illegal immigrant patrons.
During the raid, officers discovered approximately 100 foreign tourists, many of whom were intoxicated. All were subjected to urine tests, resulting in one tourist testing positive for drugs. Despite this, no illegal items were found on the premises. The establishments, catering mainly to foreign clients, were recently opened and managed by Thai nationals.
Further inspection revealed both pubs lacked licenses to operate as entertainment venues. Additionally, violations were noted concerning employees whose work permits did not match the employers listed. A cashier was found engaged in occupations reserved for Thai citizens. Consequently, 15 employees were charged, and further investigations are underway to uncover those responsible for the illegal operations.
