Chiang rai: Thai police are coordinating with Lao authorities to track down two Laotian suspects who robbed a jewelry store of gold worth over 13 million baht ($390,000) before fleeing across the Mekong River, police said on Wednesday.

According to Thai News Agency, the armed robbery took place at a shopping center in Chiang Khong district, Chiang Rai province, on Tuesday evening. The perpetrators stole gold necklaces and bracelets weighing a total of 184 baht-weight (approximately 2.8 kilograms), valued at 13,036,400 baht.

Maj. Gen. Manop Senakul, commander of the Chiang Rai Provincial Police, stated that the suspects fled the scene on a rented motorcycle, abandoned it near the Mekong riverbank, and crossed by boat into Houayxay in neighboring Laos. Thai immigration and forensic teams are sharing evidence with Lao authorities to arrest the suspects.
