Police Shootout with Drug Target Ends in Fatality

Photharam: A police operation turned deadly when Phum Chamrae, a known drug target, was fatally shot by officers after injuring a police auxiliary officer during a raid on his residence. The incident unfolded as authorities attempted to search Chamrae's home in Ban Pong District, following an investigation into his drug-related activities.

According to Thai News Agency, the investigative team initially failed to locate Chamrae at his primary residence, only to discover he had driven to his mother's house in Photharam District. Upon arrival, officers identified Chamrae's parked car and requested to search the premises. Chamrae, who was inside the vehicle, opened fire, critically wounding Mr. Thanakorn, a 45-year-old police auxiliary officer. In response, the officers returned fire, ultimately leading to Chamrae's death.

Despite attempts to persuade Chamrae to surrender, he remained non-compliant, prompting additional reinforcements from the Provincial Police Region 7, Ratchaburi Provincial Police, and the Special Operations Unit. Officers used steel shields and hammers to smash the car's window, discovering Chamrae deceased with a 9mm pistol in hand. Beside him lay three magazines and a fake gun. The vehicle's interior bore evidence of a violent exchange, with numerous bullet holes, and contained a significant amount of cash, methamphetamine pills, and crystal meth.

Chamrae had a history of drug-related offenses and had been released from prison two years prior. Despite his recent incarceration, he became involved in drug activities once again, leading to the tragic encounter with law enforcement.
