Prachin Buri Governor Orders Crackdown on Hazardous Waste Disguised as Free Fill Dirt

Prachin buri: The governor of Prachin Buri has ordered a strict legal crackdown after hazardous industrial waste was discovered illegally dumped in Kabin Buri district under the guise of "free fill dirt."

According to Thai News Agency, provincial authorities confirmed that the dumped materials are hazardous waste. Police have initiated legal action against landowners and individuals involved, with investigators summoning occupants of the affected properties for questioning. Authorities plan to pursue legal damages to cover proper waste disposal costs.

The illegal dumping sites include a national forest reserve and agricultural reform land, where local officials have launched formal legal proceedings. Additionally, environmental officers inspected the Bunlert canal following reports of black, foul-smelling water. Water testing revealed dissolved oxygen levels below standard thresholds, prompting plans for joint inspections with neighboring Sa Kaeo province.

The provincial administration has urged residents to reject unknown fill dirt or materials offered for agricultural use, citing risks to public health and the environment.
