Prasert Urges Political Parties to Cease Covert Approaches to Pheu Thai MPs

Bangkok: Prasert Chantarawongthong, Secretary-General of the Pheu Thai Party, has issued a stern warning to certain political parties, urging them to halt their covert attempts to entice Pheu Thai Members of Parliament (MPs) with offers of benefits in exchange for switching party allegiance. He described these actions as “disgusting” and a threat to democracy, cautioning that such behavior could result in exposure and significant repercussions.

According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Prasert emphasized the Pheu Thai Party’s ongoing preparations for the upcoming elections. The party’s executive team is currently engaged in a rigorous selection process to nominate candidates for MP positions across various regions, including the Northeast, North, Central, South, and Bangkok. A significant number of candidates have expressed interest in running on behalf of the party. Concurrently, strategic and policy teams are compiling and analyzing data to formulate party policies, while also planning field visits to engage in pre-election activities.

Mr. Prasert further disclosed that reports from Pheu Thai MPs, particularly in the Northeast, have highlighted irregularities that could disrupt parliamentary and democratic systems. He noted that certain individuals, associated with various political parties, have adopted “disgusting” tactics by repeatedly attempting to lure Pheu Thai MPs with offers of party changes or becoming “snake MPs.” These offers reportedly include substantial benefits and monthly compensation. Despite these enticements, many Pheu Thai MPs are well-versed in these practices and have not received the promised compensation after previously participating in such schemes.

“Several MPs from the party have been reporting this matter to the party for some time now. Therefore, we would like to warn that if this behavior is not stopped, we may conduct a sting operation or seek to record evidence to reveal to the public in the future,” stated Mr. Prasert.
