Premsak Urges Election Commission for Immediate Operational Review Amid Public Trust Concerns

Bangkok: Senator Premsak has advised the Election Commission to review its operations, fearing a loss of public trust in the February 8 election. Senator Premsak Piayura held a press conference regarding the "Investigation of the Election Commission's (EC) Performance." Following the advance voting for Members of Parliament (MPs) on Sunday, February 1, 2026, criticism arose over errors in several areas nationwide, leading to questions about the credibility of the entire EC. This is seen as undermining public trust and creating confusion in society. Therefore, he called on the EC to demonstrate leadership and take responsibility for the upcoming MP elections and referendum on Sunday, February 8, 2026, urgently restoring public confidence in the EC's transparency, integrity, and fairness.

According to Thai News Agency, the public is urged to participate in scrutinizing independent organizations through constitutional amendments and referendums. This is because the issue is a structural problem designed to place independent organizations above scrutiny. If this continues, democracy will ultimately become merely a formality and not reflect the voice of the people. This crisis of confidence could escalate and affect the legitimacy of elections and the entire democratic system in the long run.
