Bangkok: Preparations are underway for the 2026 National Rice and Farmers' Day event, focusing on reducing costs and increasing productivity.
According to Thai News Agency, the Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives is set to host the National Rice and Farmers' Day 2026 from June 5-7 under the theme "United Hearts, Loving Thai Rice: Two Decades of Progress under the Auspices of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit." The event aims to elevate Thai rice production to a new era, emphasizing cost reduction, production efficiency, and sustainable security for Thai farmers.
Mr. Winairoj Trapsongsuk, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives, chaired the press conference on the organization of the event. In attendance were Mr. Anont Nonthasri, Director-General of the Department of Rice, and Mr. Pramote Charoensilp, President of the Thai Farmers and Agriculturists Association, at the Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives.
The Permanent Secretary highlighted the government's focus on rice as a key economic crop and its cultural significance. The government aims to enhance Thai rice production by improving quality, adhering to food safety standards, and adopting environmentally friendly production methods.
June 5th has been designated as National Rice and Farmers' Day to honor the contributions of Thai monarchs and the Royal Family to the rice and farming sectors, as well as to recognize Thai farmers as primary food producers.
This year's event will see the Department of Rice connect rice development policies with practical implementation across rice-growing areas, aiming to reduce costs, increase production efficiency, and create stability for farmers. The event will disseminate knowledge on modern rice production methods.
Mr. Anont Nonthasri stated that the event marks the 20th anniversary of the Department of Rice, showcasing its commitment to research, technology development, and quality improvement to create new opportunities for farmers and enhance the global competitiveness of Thai rice.
The event will feature activities covering academics, technology, innovation, and traditional farming life. On June 6, 2026, Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn will preside over the opening ceremony and view the exhibitions.
