Bangkok:The Prime Minister indicated that the flooding situation is subsiding and plans to reduce the frequency of daily meetings. Accelerated recovery and relief efforts have been ordered, while the situation in southern Thailand is being closely monitored.
According to Thai News Agency, Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul chaired his 12th consecutive meeting of the National Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Committee. He instructed the continuation of recovery efforts and urged for expedited financial assistance to be delivered to affected individuals swiftly. He also expressed appreciation for the cooperation of all sectors in addressing the flood situation and emphasized the importance of vigilance in southern Thailand due to potential rainfall.
The Prime Minister noted that despite predicted moderate to heavy rainfall, the situation has remained manageable and thanked the Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Command Center for their efforts. He mentioned that payments have been made to 135,782 households, totaling 1,069 million baht, and emphasized the need for continued financial support to flood victims.
In response to ongoing challenges, Mr. Anutin has directed governors in the south to prepare for potential heavy rainfall, especially in provinces like Phetchaburi. He stressed the need for evacuation plans for vulnerable groups and the deployment of machinery to aid recovery. He also called for continuous improvements in the public warning system to ensure timely information dissemination.
As some areas begin to recover, immediate actions are being taken to restore public utilities, clean homes, and reopen transportation routes. The government is also working to streamline damage assessments and compensation processes. An integrated approach involving various government departments and financial institutions aims to provide rapid compensation payments under government insurance policies for eligible households.
The Prime Minister has also assigned senior executives and ministers to oversee recovery efforts in flood-affected provinces. In Bangkok, while flood relief efforts have concluded, restoration of utilities and infrastructure continues. Additionally, he requested cooperation from all sectors to work from home during international meetings to ease traffic congestion. While daily situation monitoring may be reduced, focus remains on the south, with potential establishment of a forward command center as needed.
In closing, Mr. Anutin highlighted four key directives for effective flood management prioritizing prolonged flooding areas, expediting relief efforts, ensuring clear public communication, and improving drainage systems. He thanked all agencies for their cooperation and urged continued preparedness and effective use of authority to support the public.
