Bangkok: Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul held discussions with the economic team to address the energy crisis. Ekniti revealed that contingency plans are already in place and will be implemented immediately after the new government is formed.
According to Thai News Agency, Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul convened a meeting to address the energy crisis, attended by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance Ekniti Nitithanprapas; Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Transport Pipat Ratchakitprakarn; Minister of Energy Attapol Rerkpipibun; Minister of Justice Pol. Gen. Ruddhapol Naovarat; Secretary-General of the National Economic and Social Development Council Danucha Pichayanant; Director of the Budget Bureau Anan Kaewkamnerd; and Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Finance Lavaron Saengsnit, at Government House.
Prior to the meeting chaired by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Transport, Pipat Ratchakitprakarn, in his capacity as Director of the Energy Policy and Strategy Center (EPSC), at 4:30 PM, to discuss the energy situation, following yesterday's signal from the Prime Minister that diesel prices would be allowed to be determined by market mechanisms.
Also present was Mr. Ekanat Promphan, a party-list MP from the Bhumjaithai Party, whose name is on the list for the position of Minister of Energy, who arrived at Government House.
Mr. Ekniti revealed before attending the meeting with the Prime Minister that he would discuss the matter with the Prime Minister before providing clarification. This would include issues related to oil prices and assistance measures, as global oil prices are highly volatile today.
Regarding public concerns about the energy crisis and the cost of living, and what measures the government will take to help, Mr. Ekanit stated that everything is prepared, and the government will be ready to act once a new government is in place.
Regarding how prices of goods will fluctuate in line with oil prices, Mr. Ekniti said that the Ministry of Commerce will report on commodity prices and the Ministry of Transport will look into the transportation sector.
