He emphasized the importance of a meticulous investigation and the need to facilitate the return of the deceased's body to its hometown.
According to Thai News Agency, Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Anutin Charnvirakul addressed the calls for the execution of the suspects involved in the murders of two Russian siblings and an entire Thai family. He assured the public that Thailand has legal processes to handle repeat offenders and pledged to proceed decisively. His upcoming trip to Chonburi aims to expedite the investigation, ensuring accuracy and thoroughness to guarantee the maximum punishment for the crimes committed. The Prime Minister cautioned against speculation on specific punishments, emphasizing that the courts will ultimately decide.
The Prime Minister stressed the need for police and the Office of the Attorney General to accelerate the cases, noting that these crimes have shocked Thailand and severely damaged the country's image. He assured the public of Thailand's commitment to justice. He explained that the suspects' release from prison was due to previous convictions, which must be followed through with legal procedures. Given the nature of these cases, particularly murder and repeat offenses, he believes the punishment will be severe. The Prime Minister underscored the importance of a thorough investigation by the police.
He further stated that the deceased were foreigners, and Thailand must provide them with the utmost assistance. The mothers of the two tourists are currently in Thailand, and efforts are being made to coordinate and facilitate their situation. The Prime Minister is visiting the site to ensure everything is handled swiftly, including the legal case and repatriation of the bodies. He emphasized the need to show Thailand's sorrow over the incident and reassure the world that such events must not happen again.
Regarding the Ministry of Tourism and Sports, the Prime Minister stated that all parties involved will receive instructions. The Ministry is working to promote Thailand, register tour guides and shops, and provide various facilities. Ensuring national security is also a matter for the police. The Prime Minister highlighted the issue of individuals impersonating police officers to threaten and harm victims, stressing the need for further investigation.
"Rest assured, I will never let this go. I will ensure that those responsible pay for what they did, because it wasn't just two deaths, but five. I believe the public thinks the same way, but as Prime Minister I can't speak openly. However, everything will be handled properly," the Prime Minister said.
