Bangkok: The Prime Minister clarified the news regarding the transfer of the Secretary-General of the National Security Council, stating that it was based on suitability and emphasized the importance of choosing the right person for the job and someone who can solve problems effectively.

According to Thai News Agency, Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Anutin Charnvirakul addressed rumors on August 25, 2026, about the possible transfer of General Chaiyapruk Duangprapat, Chief of Staff of the Royal Thai Army, to the position of Secretary-General of the National Security Council (NSC). This move, replacing Chatchai Bangchawad, is intended to oversee and resolve the unrest in the southern border provinces. The Prime Minister emphasized that the transfer is part of the regular seasonal appointment and transfer process, highlighting the importance of selecting individuals who are most suitable for the role to ensure maximum efficiency.

The Prime Minister reiterated that there were no ulterior motives behind this decision and declined to comment on whether he had approached General Phana Klaewplodthuk, Commander-in-Chief of the Royal Thai Army, to request the transfer of General Chaiyapruk.

Furthermore, reports indicate that the Prime Minister has indeed approached General Chaiyapruk Duangprapat to consider the position of Secretary-General of the NSC. This offer was coordinated through the Commander-in-Chief of the Royal Thai Army, and General Chaiyapruk has expressed his willingness and acceptance of the offer to assume the position.
