Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul Welcomes Former Singapore Leader Lee Hsien Loong in Bangkok

Bangkok: The Prime Minister welcomed Mr. Lee Hsien Loong, former Prime Minister of Singapore, on the occasion of his visit to pay respects to the royal remains of Her Majesty the Queen Mother. This meeting reflected the warm friendship between Thailand and Singapore, ready to further develop cooperation in the digital and green economy.

According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Siripong Angkasakulkiat, Government Spokesperson, revealed that on 3 August 2025 at 4:20 p.m., Mr. Anutin Charnvirakul, Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior, welcomed Mr. Lee Hsien Loong at Thai Khu Fa Building, Government House. The visit was to honor the royal remains of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit, the Queen Mother.

The Prime Minister hosted a tea party in the Golden Dome Room on the 2nd floor in a friendly and warm atmosphere. The two leaders reminisced about their long-standing friendship dating back to their participation in the APEC meeting in Bangkok in 2022 and exchanged views on the potential for future Thai-Singaporean cooperation, particularly in the digital economy, green economy, and technology sectors that are driving Southeast Asia forward.

Mr. Siripong revealed that after the meeting, Mr. Lee Hsien Loong posted a message reflecting his feelings of connection to Thailand. He said that he was delighted to reconnect with Prime Minister Anutin. He also thanked him for the warm welcome and generosity Thailand had extended to him and his wife, stating, “The Thai-Singapore relationship is strong and there is still much room for us to further our cooperation, particularly in the digital and green economy.”

The two leaders took a selfie together in a friendly atmosphere, reflecting their close personal relationship and truly symbolizing the close relationship between the two countries.

Mr. Siripong also stated that Prime Minister Anutin is scheduled to make an official visit to the Republic of Singapore on November 7, 2025, which will be an important opportunity to elevate Thailand-Singapore strategic cooperation to a new level in a concrete manner.
