Prime Minister Anutin Vows to Reduce Scammer Cases by 60% Amidst Allegations

Bangkok: The Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, Anutin Charnvirakul, has committed to not engaging in questionable activities nor allowing the Department of Special Investigation (DSI) to discredit him. He also announced a significant reduction of 60% in cases involving scammers and nominees, which he considers a key government policy.

According to Thai News Agency, Prime Minister Anutin, after leading a press conference on the crackdown on scammers and transnational nominee networks, emphasized the government's focus on preventing and suppressing transnational crime. The Royal Thai Police, along with other agencies, have been actively involved in this initiative. Anutin highlighted that continuous monitoring has led to a notable decrease in cases and an increase in seized assets. He stressed the importance of genuine reporting, stating that the consistent trend in scam cases reflects real situations that necessitate investigation by all parties.

In discussing the nominee system, Anutin remarked on the need for action against any wrongdoing, with a firm stance on immediate arrests and asset seizures. He emphasized the commitment to deportation and banning re-entry into the country for those found guilty. Anutin assured that he would not partake in or permit the DSI to undermine public trust, especially following stricter scrutiny of TH-AI passports.

Anutin also addressed allegations of political persecution related to the People's Party and the DSI's involvement with MP Pawut Pongwitayaphanu in the Forex case. He dismissed the allegations as fabrications and assured that any legal accusations would be handled through due process, allowing the accused to present evidence.

In response to a sarcastic comment by Ms. Rakchanok Srinok, a list MP from the People's Party, urging Bhumjaithai MPs to produce results, Anutin remarked that the performance of Bhumjaithai Party ministers is under constant evaluation. He urged for patience and adherence to the legal process, dismissing any notion of political smear campaigns. Anutin emphasized that the government evaluates the Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) of ministers regularly and is committed to improving governance and accountability.
