Buriram: The Prime Minister reiterated that building a border fence does not violate the ceasefire agreement, saying it is a separate matter. He emphasized that he would adhere to the people’s wishes. He also requested the army provide details for the first area.
According to Thai News Agency, Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Anutin Charnvirakul discussed the scope of his visit to Chong Sai Taku, saying that today’s visit will focus on the readiness for the construction of a border fence between Thailand and Cambodia. This follows the National Security Council (NSC)’s resolution to have the military conduct a survey of the border and report on the readiness of the fence, identifying the type of border fence and its location. He stated that he had previously visited several border provinces, including Surin Province, and today he was in Buriram Province.
Regarding whether the fence construction will violate the ceasefire agreement, Mr. Anutin said that these are separate matters, but that we are doing everything possible to preserve Thailand’s sovereignty. Regarding the agreement, it remains subject to the results of the meetings of both the GBC and RBC. We must adhere to the principle of preserving sovereignty to ensure security, and we must adhere to the people’s wishes.
The reporter asked further where the fence construction would begin. Mr. Anutin said that the details would need to be discussed with the Army.
