Bangkok: The Prime Minister has firmly stated that there is no necessity to clarify the situation to the international community regarding the recent missile incident, as images unmistakably depict BM-21 rockets being fired into Thailand. Furthermore, the Prime Minister confirmed plans to engage with the National Security Council (NSC) to discuss strategies aimed at preventing the indirect shipment of military equipment to Cambodia.
According to Thai News Agency, Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Anutin Charnvirakul shared outcomes from his discussions with the Secretary-General of the NSC. He indicated that an NSC meeting scheduled for tomorrow will address issues concerning the restriction and control of military equipment shipments to Cambodia. The Prime Minister downplayed the seriousness of the situation, describing it as normal.
In response to questions about whether bringing this issue to the NSC signified a national security threat akin to cutting off electricity, Mr. Anutin admitted to lacking awareness of the legal specifics. He mentioned that the NSC Secretary-General required time to convene a meeting the following morning, which he deemed an apt moment for comprehensive discussions with NSC members.
On the subject of establishing clear guidelines, Mr. Anutin assured that they were already in place. Additionally, when queried about potential talks with Laos on the border closure, the Prime Minister remarked, “We have closed our part.”
Regarding the matter of oil tankers stationed at Chong Mek, the Prime Minister stated that any reports or details should be sought from the army, specifically from the commander of the Second Army Region, who is responsible for the situation and has issued relevant orders.
In light of the United Nations office in Geneva’s appeal to multiple conflict-ridden countries, including Thailand and Cambodia, to cease hostilities, the Prime Minister reiterated Thailand’s sovereignty. He emphasized that further explanation was unnecessary, as the images provided a clear narrative. He highlighted that the BM-21s constitute a complete, visually striking series and reassured that Thailand has not acted against any other nation.
Lastly, the Prime Minister noted that he had yet to receive a report from Deputy Prime Minister Bowornsak Uwanno concerning discussions with the Election Commission.
