Prime Minister Asserts Right to Protest Without Investigation Into Funding

Bangkok:The Prime Minister has emphasized that protest leaders have the right to assemble, assuring that no investigation into their funding sources will occur as long as they do not violate the law.

According to Thai News Agency, the Prime Minister requested non-interference with the courts concerning the disqualification of those named in an amnesty petition related to protest participation.

Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Anutin Charnvirakul commented on the Bangkok Metropolitan Police's announcement prohibiting public gatherings within a 50-meter radius of Government House, in response to a planned demonstration on November 7th led by Manokrue Kaew. He stated he was unaware of the announcement. The Prime Minister emphasized that all agencies must fulfill their responsibilities and that the government is open to listening to public suggestions and opinions, as guaranteed by the Constitution.

When questioned about the protesters' intention to stay overnight to submit demands, the Prime Minister said it is within their rights as long as it does not cause trouble. Regarding the amnesty list, he noted that any decision is for the courts to make, and he will not interfere, highlighting the separation of the executive, legislative, and judicial branches in the democratic system.

On the topic of investigating the funding sources of political protests, the Prime Minister indicated that this falls under the purview of relevant agencies and security forces. However, if the gatherings are peaceful and do not inconvenience the public, there will be no investigation into funding sources, provided that activities remain within legal boundaries.
