Bangkok: The Prime Minister has confirmed that the recent explosion at the Border Patrol Police weapons depot was caused by a technical malfunction and not by any act of sabotage. He has called for stricter security measures for the storage of weapons and ammunition, while also denying any connection between the incident and the Thai-Cambodian border situation.

According to Thai News Agency, Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Anutin Charnvirakul addressed the explosion at the weapons depot of the Border Patrol Police Division 21 in Surin Province. He assured the public that the incident was not an act of sabotage, but rather a technical accident. It was noted that the National Police Chief would provide additional details in an upcoming press conference.

The Prime Minister emphasized the necessity of implementing tighter controls on ammunition storage to prevent future occurrences. He also confirmed that the explosion is unrelated to the ongoing situation at the Thai-Cambodian border.

Addressing public concerns regarding the evacuation of areas near the depot, the Prime Minister explained that the security measure was precautionary due to the proximity to the arms depot and the potential risk of harm. The evacuation was part of a pre-established contingency plan, and he assured that the situation is now under control.

In discussions with security agencies, the Prime Minister mentioned a recent meeting with General Phana Klaewplodthuk, the Army Commander, and General Chaiyapruk Duangprapat, the Army Chief of Staff. The meeting aimed to ensure maximum coordination and affirmed the military's readiness to defend the nation. The Prime Minister reiterated the government's full support for the armed forces.
