Bangkok: The Prime Minister urged calm after being criticized over the Thai-Cambodian border dispute, emphasizing that he would not put his country at a disadvantage and would take all necessary measures if an invasion occurred.
According to Thai News Agency, during his special lecture on “Medical Governance and the Sustainable Development of Thailand,” Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Anutin Charnvirakul addressed the issue, stating that people should be patient and that Thailand is not at a disadvantage. He acknowledged the criticism of his government’s silence but questioned whether revealing plans would be wise in the event of war. Anutin assured that no government would allow its country to be disadvantaged in any conflict, stressing the importance of protecting national interests.
Anutin also responded to claims that Thailand has been passive in the dispute, asserting that there has been no shooting, invasion, or provocation along the border. He emphasized that a clear message has been sent to Cambodia, warning that any aggressive actions would be met with a strong response. He highlighted the concerns of Thai citizens living along the border, noting their opposition to opening the border due to their suffering.
“I promise not to do anything that will damage our honor, our sovereignty, no matter how much it costs. I want the people to have confidence,” Anutin stated firmly, seeking to reassure the public of his commitment to national integrity.
