Prime Minister Co-Hosts Ceremony for Former Permanent Secretary of Ministry of Interior

Bangkok: The Prime Minister recently participated in co-hosting the merit-making ceremony for Mr. Phranai Suwannarat, the former Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior. The event took place at Wat Thepsirinthra Rajaworawihan Ratchaworawihan in Bangkok, where Mom Chao Thikamporn Yugala presided over the funeral rites.

According to Thai News Agency, the ceremony, held at the Kawiniramit Pavilion, was attended by prominent figures including Privy Councilor Admiral Phongthep Noothep and Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul. The Suwannarat family, led by Privy Councilor Plakorn Suwannarat and Thipwipa Suwannarat, welcomed the attendees. A significant presence from the Ministry of Interior was noted, with senior officials and directors-general from various departments participating in the ceremony.

In a gesture of honor, His Majesty the King bestowed royal bathing water, an octagonal urn, and a five-tiered umbrella for the funeral rites. Royal wreaths were presented by Her Majesty Queen Sirikit the Queen Mother, Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn, and other members of the royal family. The three-night chanting ceremony was a solemn tribute to Mr. Phranai Suwannarat’s service.

Born on November 5, 1951, Mr. Phranai Suwannarat served as the 37th Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior. His career spanned numerous important roles, including district chief, provincial governor, and Director of the Southern Border Provinces Administrative Center. He retired in 2012 after a distinguished career marked by diligence and loyalty.

Mr. Phranai Suwannarat was highly decorated, receiving honors such as the Most Exalted Order of the White Elephant and the Most Exalted Order of the Crown of Thailand. His service to the nation was notable for his adherence to the interests of the people and his dedication to alleviating suffering and fostering happiness.

In reflections from his book “Experiences of an Administrator,” Mr. Phranai highlighted the importance of a moral system within government to serve as a refuge for the people. He passed away on September 4, 2025, at the age of 73. The funeral rites continue until September 11, with the cremation ceremony scheduled to follow the chanting of the Abhidhamma.
