Prime Minister Commends Thai Citizens for Significant Reduction in Diesel Consumption

Bangkok: The Prime Minister expressed gratitude to the Thai citizens for their diligent energy conservation efforts, which have led to a substantial decrease in diesel consumption. Minister Danucha Pichayanant reported a reduction in diesel usage to 45-56 million liters per day, down from a previous average of 82 million liters. He assured the public that there will be no fuel shortage during the Songkran festival but encouraged ongoing conservation due to uncertain conditions in the Middle East.

According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Danucha Pichayanant, Secretary-General of the National Economic and Social Development Council, provided an update after a meeting with the Prime Minister. He noted that the public's reduced energy consumption is positively impacting national oil reserves, which now exceed 100 days' supply. This includes oil in transit, domestic stock, and reserves for local sale.

Mr. Danucha highlighted the benefits of reduced energy use on the production system, as it decreases the strain on oil refineries and reduces daily expenditures on the Fuel Fund, positively affecting the country's fiscal health. Despite a recent announcement from the US president causing a slight decrease in oil prices, the situation remains uncertain, underscoring the need for continued energy conservation.

To reassure citizens during the upcoming Songkran festival, Mr. Danucha confirmed that fuel supplies will remain stable, particularly at PTT and Bangchak gas stations. He emphasized the necessity for all sectors to adapt to energy-saving practices, warning that prolonged challenges could have significant economic impacts, necessitating widespread lifestyle adjustments.
