Prime Minister Confirms Resolution of Border Unrest with Cambodia

Bangkok: The Prime Minister received a report that the unrest at the border has been resolved. He confirmed there was no continued firing and pointed out that frontline commanders have the right to negotiate. He warned against doing this frequently and clarified that it is unrelated to any statements made for campaigning purposes, emphasizing that the Thai army remains strong.

According to Thai News Agency, Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul, in an interview regarding the Cambodian military firing an M79 grenade into Thai territory, stated that he had received a report and that everything was as reported by the military. The Chief of Staff of the Army had reported to him this morning that there was nothing to worry about. The bright light at the border was caused by someone tripping over a flare light placed along the patrol line. He then remarked, "Like I said, there's so much space to walk, but they chose to walk here."

Mr. Anutin confirmed that there had been no continuous firing, and that the ceasefire agreement stipulated that if such incidents occurred, the commanders of both sides would find a solution together. Once an agreement was reached, the conflict would be considered resolved, but such incidents should not happen frequently. He added that the situation at the ground level had already been agreed upon, and there was no need to involve higher-level officials.

When asked by reporters whether he was concerned about the incident, as it might be related to the Bhumjaithai Party's speeches regarding the border, the Prime Minister said he was not worried at all and that it was unrelated. He concluded by saying that our military is strong.
