Bangkok: The Prime Minister held an urgent meeting to address the energy crisis after the 15-day price freeze expired. Anutin Charnvirakul called the meeting to closely monitor diesel prices, with the expiration of the price freeze raising concerns amid an ongoing energy crisis.
According to Thai News Agency, the meeting saw the attendance of key ministers and officials, including Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Transport Pipat Ratchakitprakarn, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance Ekniti Nitithanprapha, Minister of Commerce Supajee Suthamphan, and other high-ranking officials. The primary focus was on discussing measures to tackle the energy, financial, and fiscal challenges exacerbated by the Middle East conflict and the end of the diesel price freeze.
Prior to the meeting, Ekniti Songkrasin disclosed that discussions with relevant agencies had already taken place, emphasizing the importance of addressing fuel prices post-freeze. He highlighted the complexities involved in issuing a royal decree to borrow funds from the Fuel Fund due to the government's caretaker status, which limits its ability to enact new laws. Consequently, legal and financial implications are to be closely monitored as the situation evolves.
