Bangkok: The Prime Minister has dismissed allegations of tax evasion, asserting confidence in paying more taxes than her critics. She emphasized that her and her family’s assets have been under strict scrutiny since the 2006 revolution, with Alpine land transactions being legally conducted since she was 11. She pledged non-interference in the Khao Kradong issue and committed to ensuring fairness.
According to Thai News Agency, Ms. Paethongtarn Shinawatra, the Prime Minister, addressed misunderstandings raised during a debate, clarifying that accusations of her being a tax evader were unfounded. She stated her firm commitment to transparency and compliance with legal procedures.
The Prime Minister reaffirmed that her asset and debt submissions to the National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC) were complete, with ongoing verification. She expressed readiness to provide any necessary information and cooperate fully with the NACC’s process.
Regarding pre-office transactions, she explained that her family’s assets have been under rigorous examination since the 2006 coup. All real estate transactions, including share dealings initiated in 2016, were conducted legally, and all relevant documentation was submitted to the NACC.
Ms. Paethongtarn addressed the use of promissory notes in share transactions, clarifying that such practices are standard and legally compliant. She dismissed claims linking promissory notes to corruption or illegal activities, emphasizing their transparency and legal status.
She explained the rationale behind using promissory notes, noting that it was a strategic choice for business operations. All transactions were documented and transparent, with future tax obligations acknowledged and planned for.
The Prime Minister also touched on the Alpine land case, stating that her involvement began at a young age and that all land purchases were conducted legally with proper title deeds. She assured that any legal proceedings followed due process without her interference.
In the Khao Kradong land dispute, she expressed her commitment to uphold fairness and legality. She called for public confidence in the handling of the issue, ensuring that it would be addressed seriously and transparently.
The Prime Minister concluded by urging for unity and constructive discourse, warning against the use of sensitive issues to sow division. She called on all parties to work towards the betterment of Thailand, fostering a spirit of cooperation and understanding.
