Surin: The Prime Minister has instructed the military to ensure the well-being of the soldier who lost a leg after stepping on a landmine at the Erawan base in Surin province. He emphasized the army's responsibility to enhance landmine clearance methods and assured the government's full support.

According to Thai News Agency, Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Anutin Charnvirakul addressed the incident, highlighting that he had received a report and directed the military to provide comprehensive care for the affected soldier, given the operation's frontline nature. He expressed sorrow over the incident and underscored the necessity for extreme caution. Initial reports suggest that heavy rain led to soil erosion, hinting at the presence of landmines in reclaimed areas. Consequently, he emphasized the urgency of prompt and thorough landmine removal to safeguard personnel.

When questioned about the potential need to modify mine clearance methods, Mr. Anutin indicated that such queries should be addressed to the military. However, he reiterated his full support for their efforts to ensure safety, security, and operational effectiveness.

Further inquiries about the military's explanation regarding the landmine's age were also referred to the military by Mr. Anutin. He mentioned that he had received the report and directed the military to prioritize the welfare of those injured in such incidents, which he wished to prevent.
