Prime Minister Engages with Election Commission on Setting Election Date

Bangkok: The Prime Minister has confirmed discussions with the Election Commission regarding the setting of an election date. He indicated that any decision on holding a referendum related to Memorandums of Understanding (MOUs) 43-44 would depend on the outcomes of ongoing studies by the two parliamentary houses.

According to Thai News Agency, Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior, Anutin Charnvirakul, responded to inquiries about the Election Commission’s involvement in determining the election date and the number of ballots citizens would need to cast. He mentioned that although the Election Commission had specified the number of days required for preparations, he could not immediately recall the details and would need to consult the records.

The Prime Minister also addressed questions regarding the potential cancellation of MOUs 43-44, stating that this decision would hinge on the results from studies conducted by committees from both houses of parliament. He acknowledged uncertainty about whether the Election Commission had requested a 60 or 90-day timeframe for the referendum but confirmed that discussions on these matters had already been initiated.
