Prime Minister Invites Australian Businesses to Invest in Thailand’s Strategic ASEAN Market

Bangkok: The Prime Minister of Thailand, Anutin Charnvirakul, has extended an invitation to Australian businesses to "Invest in Thailand, Connecting with ASEAN," tapping into a market of nearly 700 million people. This announcement was made during his keynote address at the 'Thailand-Australia Investment and Business Partnership Reception,' attended by representatives from both Thai and Australian governments and businesses.

According to Thai News Agency, the Prime Minister emphasized the significance of using Thailand as an investment base and gateway to the ASEAN market. As Thailand and Australia approach the 75th anniversary of their diplomatic relations in 2027, this initiative aims to transform long-standing bilateral relationships into tangible economic opportunities. The government's role, he stated, is to provide a conducive environment, enabling the business sector to harness these opportunities effectively.

The Prime Minister highlighted the global economic uncertainties driven by changes in geopolitics, technology, and supply chains. In response, Thailand is focusing on building economic resilience through a robust business ecosystem, promoting technological innovation, and establishing collaborative networks. As a founding member of ASEAN, Thailand aims to strengthen regional connectivity and resilience, enhancing ASEAN's competitiveness on the global stage.

Further, the Prime Minister outlined Thailand's strategic advantages, such as its industrial base, strategic location, and extensive trade networks. Investing in Thailand offers access not only to its domestic market of approximately 66 million people but also to the broader ASEAN market. He also emphasized the complementary economic structures of Thailand and Australia, highlighting opportunities in five key areas: agriculture and food, renewable energy, digital and creative industries, advanced manufacturing, and education.

Thailand's investment landscape remains robust, with a record high of A$80 billion in investment applications through the Board of Investment in 2025, marking a significant increase from the previous year. Efforts to enhance the ease of investment include initiatives like Thailand FastPass, Skill Bridge, and the Utility Green Tariff, which support sustainable and competitive business operations.

The Board of Investment invited over 53 leading Australian companies to the event, spanning industries such as technology, agriculture, automotive, and education. Prominent participants included ANCA, Canva, and Hastings, alongside Thai companies like Thai Beverage and B.Grimm Power. The event facilitated direct networking opportunities, allowing Australian businesses to gain insights into Thailand's policy direction and identify sectors for potential collaboration.

In conclusion, the Prime Minister encouraged leveraging the established trust and free trade agreements to strengthen supply chains and foster cooperation in future industries, positioning Thailand as a vital hub for economic opportunities within the ASEAN region.
