Bangkok: The Prime Minister led ministers in saluting the national flag and singing the Thai national anthem on National Flag Day 2025. Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Anutin Charnvirakul led a cabinet committee, including several deputy prime ministers and ministers, in commemorating the occasion. The ceremony took place at the flagpole in front of Santi Maitri Building, Government House, to honor His Majesty King Rama VI, who introduced the tricolor flag as the Thai national flag.
According to Thai News Agency, the event was attended by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Transport Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn, Deputy Prime Ministers Sophon Saram, Bowornsak Uwanno, and Ekniti Nitithanpraphat, among others. Ministers of the Prime Minister’s Office, including Ms. Supamas Isaraphakdi, Mr. Paradorn Prisananantakul, Mr. Naphin Srisanphan, and Mr. Santi Piyatat, also participated in the flag salute. The ceremony highlighted the significance of September 28 as National Flag Day, a proposal initially made by the Prime Minister’s Office to mark the centennial of the Thai national flag in 2017.
The Thai national flag, known as the Tricolor flag, consists of three primary colors: red, white, and blue, arranged in five horizontal stripes. The central blue stripe is twice the size of the others, with red and white stripes flanking it. His Majesty King Rama VI explained that the colors symbolize the blood sacrificed for the nation, the purity of Buddhism, and the monarch’s personal color.
