Prime Minister Orders Agencies to Review Southern Border Strategies and Enhance Peace Talks

Bangkok:The Prime Minister has directed all relevant agencies to assess their current strategies in addressing issues in the southern border provinces. This directive aims to identify weaknesses, reduce overlap in efforts, and push forward with peace negotiations while emphasizing public safety.

According to Thai News Agency, the Prime Minister, who also serves as the Minister of Interior, Anutin Charnvirakul, led a meeting organized by the National Security Council (NSC) with various agency heads involved in managing the southern border situation. The meeting included Deputy Prime Minister Sihasak Phuangketkaew, the Minister of Defence, and several other high-ranking officials from security and administrative sectors.

The Prime Minister noted that although unrest in the southern border regions has decreased, incidents still threaten national security and impede regional development. He stressed that coordinated efforts among agencies are crucial for effective problem-solving. The meeting aimed to establish a framework and key issues for addressing these problems in the 2027 fiscal year, focusing on quick, concrete results.

Participants were encouraged to share insights and develop guidelines to enhance safety and quality of life in the area. The Prime Minister also instructed agencies to evaluate past operations' shortcomings and refine management mechanisms to expedite legal actions against offenders, thereby boosting public confidence.

The peace process remains a priority, with the government committed to continuing talks under the framework of the Thai Constitution and maintaining territorial integrity. The Prime Minister underscored the importance of collaboration with Malaysia to support these efforts.

In addition to addressing the southern border issues, the Prime Minister has tasked the Commissioner of the Royal Thai Police with monitoring protest situations abroad, specifically in France, to prevent similar occurrences in Thailand. He emphasized the differences in social contexts and highlighted the importance of unity and peace among Thai citizens.
