Prime Minister Orders Flood Preparations as More Rain Approaches

According to Thai News Agency, Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Anutin Charnvirakul has directed preparations for expected heavy rain on October 4-5, 2026. At a meeting of the National Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Command, he called for accelerated water drainage and comprehensive support for those affected by the floods.

Provincial authorities have been instructed to assess risks, prepare necessary resources, and use weather forecasts for proactive water management. The Prime Minister emphasized accurate public communication to prevent confusion about water levels.

In the Khlong Chan area, water levels have begun to recede, enabling residents to return to normal activities. From September 28th to October 1st, the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation supplied mobile kitchens and water purification units, distributing around 68,000 meals.

The Rom Klao housing community has provided over 61,000 meals and coordinated with volunteers to deliver supplies to hard-to-reach areas. The Prime Minister mandated that shelters maintain standards for essential needs and instructed the use of pumps and barriers to mitigate flood impacts.

Authorities are urged to expedite damage assessments, classifying them based on when they occurred, with different regulations applying pre-and post-October 1, 2026. The Ministry of Interior and related bodies are to ensure understanding of the National Disaster Insurance policy for effective assistance.

Additionally, Deputy Prime Minister Ekniti Nitithanprapas will work with the Office of Insurance Commission to facilitate fair insurance claims for flood-damaged properties. The Prime Minister stressed the importance of ongoing public assistance to restore normalcy swiftly.
