Nonthaburi: The Prime Minister delivered policy guidelines for the 2027 budget, noting global volatility and emphasizing the need to use the budget "targeted and precise." The policy was outlined during a seminar held at the Royal Jubilee Ballroom, Challenger Building, IMPACT Exhibition and Convention Center, Pak Kret District, where Mr. Anutin Charnvirakul, Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, presided over its opening.

According to Thai News Agency, Ms. Ratchada Thanadirek, spokesperson for the Prime Minister's Office, revealed that the Prime Minister has issued directives for the preparation of the 2027 fiscal year budget. The Prime Minister highlighted the necessity for policy adaptation due to volatile global conditions, particularly conflicts in the Middle East. He advocated for a review and reduction of budgets on unnecessary projects to optimize financial use.

The Prime Minister emphasized that the budget must be "targeted and precise," addressing "10 Plus" policy objectives to navigate current crises while fostering sustainable development and mitigating the middle-income trap. The government has identified five key policy areas: Economy, Foreign Affairs and Security, Society, Disasters and the Environment, and Public Administration.

The budget framework for 2027 is set at 3.788 trillion baht, marking a modest increase of 0.2 percent from the previous year. The Prime Minister underscored the importance of cost-effectiveness and zero-based budgeting, advocating for a strict rule limiting budget increases to no more than 20 percent of the prior year's budget, focusing solely on capital expenditures.

The government aims to transform energy usage by promoting clean energy, such as electric vehicles and solar rooftops. It also prioritizes national sovereignty through comprehensive security readiness and modernization of weaponry. Cooperation from all sectors is sought to advance security initiatives.

The Prime Minister also witnessed a memorandum of understanding signing to enhance budget transparency and reduce corruption through collaboration among key agencies, including the Budget Bureau and the National Anti-Corruption Commission.
