Prime Minister Paetongtarn Engages in Dialogue with Cambodian National Assembly President to Foster Bilateral Relations

Phnom Penh: Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra held discussions with Samdech Maha Rathsapheathika Thipadei Khuon Sudary, President of the Cambodian National Assembly, to enhance the relationship between the Thai and Cambodian parliaments and to advance the role of women in both nations.

According to Thai News Agency, the meeting took place at the National Assembly of the Kingdom of Cambodia. The Prime Minister expressed her appreciation for the opportunity to visit Cambodia and praised Khuon Sudary for being the first woman to hold the esteemed position of National Assembly President. Paetongtarn commended her efforts in advocating for education, training, and leadership opportunities for women in Cambodia. They exchanged views on enhancing the role of women in their respective countries, with Paetongtarn affirming her commitment to supporting cooperation on issues concerning women and girls.

The discussion also touched upon the relationship between the Thai and Cambodian parliaments, with the Prime Minister highlighting the significance of the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries. She expressed satisfaction with the reciprocal visits by the parliamentary leaders last year and proposed initiatives to foster closer ties between emerging parliamentarians and female members of both legislatures.

Further, Paetongtarn conveyed her satisfaction with the discussions held during this visit, particularly with Samdech Hun Manet, which she believes will bolster bilateral relations across various sectors, including the economy, trade, investment, connectivity, and tourism. In terms of security, both nations agreed to collaboratively address cross-border challenges, such as online scams, impacting citizens’ livelihoods. The Cambodian National Assembly President echoed the sentiment, welcoming the Prime Minister’s visit as a step towards reinforcing cooperation between the two nations and pledging support for future collaborative endeavors.
